“I will not use the body’s eyes today.”
Eckhart Tolle, in his book The Power of Now, distinguishes between clock time and psychological time, the difference having to do with the measure of emotional involvement. Clock time is about time being a tool: a dentist appointment at 4, or the cake in the oven being done in 10 minutes. Psychological time has to do with the mind being occupied with past regrets or future worries.
With the eyes one could make a similar sort of distinction: physical sight – watch the puddle on the sidewalk, cross when the light turns green – and mirror sight. Mirror sight has to do with how we see the images in the world. The way you perceive the images in the world reflects back to you what you have going on inside: your active stories are mirrored to you.
And then there is spiritual vision, of which today’s text speaks. When you have let go of the limiting and mistaken notions of the ego mind, you have created space in your mind that the Light of Creation will quickly stream into. It will extend Its Love and Joy and Peace through you into the world. The images you then see are wholesome, lovely and free. They testify to the Light in you meeting the Light that is present in all of Creation.
