“Creation’s gentleness is all I see.”
Today’s closing prayer reads:
In quiet would I look upon the world, which but reflects Your Thoughts, and mine as well. Let me remember that they are the same, and I will see creation’s gentleness. (W-pII.265.2:1-3)
You may be wondering how Creation’s thoughts could be the same as your thoughts, when all you seem to be aware of are doubts and misgivings, not to mention selfish and judgmental thoughts.
Perhaps it is helpful to distinguish between notions and inspirations. Notions are thoughts the ego mind likes to toss around and lure you with. Inspirations are creative thoughts that harmonize with the qualities of Creation. The prayer then becomes:
“In quiet would I look upon the world, which but reflects Your Inspirations, and mine as well. Let me remember that they are the same, and I will see creation’s gentleness.”
It may now be clear that the way God’s thoughts are your thoughts is by alignment with the quality of the thoughts that make up Creation. That makes this a prayer about the need and willingness to focus.
